The small British sports car is back and trying to make a
name for itself. After entering the market again in 2000 with the Elise which
was a big success in Europe as it gave the drivers the feeling of an over sized
go-kart which was a lot of fun to drive but the one complaint was the lack of
power. Well the Evora is the college graduate of the Elises pubescent self. Lotus
gave it a power upgrade so it can flex some muscle with a 3.5 light weight V6
to keep that go-kart performance with more speed and a harsher delivery. Going
from 0-60 in 4.6 and a top speed of 172 is combined with day to day economic capabilities
and not just track performance. The light weight pumped up V6 will do a solid
28mpg and in relative comfort compared so some cars in this position. The Evora
is a fun track day car but is not set up to break your bones going down an
un-even country surface which is where many sports cars really do let you down.
Expect a firmer ride than a ford focus but not a bone shattering experience you
would get from a Porsche GT3, leaving you to count the amount of fillings that
have fallen out from the shaking. Hopefully this new production from Lotus is
going to pick up over here in the US as it is a great little car for some fun
whilst not spending all your time at the gas pump.
